On 24th September, we opened our doors for our TRS Open Day. Customers, partners and colleagues from across the industry joined our team to see the Tubular Rack System up close. They asked questions of the people who build and run it, and talked through what moving tubulars offshore is really like.
The conversations on the day kept coming back to one point. Everyone knows tubular handling is one of the riskiest jobs on deck. What has been missing is a better way to do it.
Why tubular handling needs a new standard
Moving tubulars offshore usually means deck crew climbing onto loose, stacked pipe on a moving vessel and working around tangled slings. Our industry puts safety first, yet this practice has been accepted as normal for far too long.
The TRS gives crews an engineered way to control a high-risk activity instead of leaning mainly on procedure and manual judgement. It turns tubular transport from a variable local practice into a method that is the same every time.
Watch: The TRS, up close
If you couldn’t make the open day, or you’d like a second look, Aaron Tranter, our Head of Operations, has recorded a walkthrough of the system. Aaron has worked on the TRS for 10 years. In the video he explains how it works and why it changes the way tubular handling is done.
